Director, Business Development

Position Summary

Genocea seeks an experienced Director, Business Development who will oversee and support the identification and pursuit of strategic business opportunities, partnerships and licensing agreements that fit within the overall corporate strategy and business plan. Activities will include pursuing out licensing opportunities for Genocea’s pipeline programs, evaluating external technologies and growth opportunities for Genocea and executing on due diligence and transactions when appropriate. In addition, the Director will provide any necessary ongoing support and oversight required for successful execution of the alliance. This individual will report to the Chief Business Officer (CBO) and will be a member of Genocea’s Business Development group with frequent and close contact with senior management.

 

Primary responsibilities

  • Develop business case, valuation, deal structure, deal terms and negotiation approach on Business Development deals
  • Work closely with senior leadership at a peer level on corporate strategy and partner relationships required for corporate growth and to maximize shareholder value
  • Work effectively with legal, finance, clinical and scientific teams to business development proposals to senior management
  • Lead evaluations of all aspects of therapeutic drug programs from preclinical through clinical stages across mechanism, preclinical data, manufacturing, regulatory strategy, clinical development path, intellectual property and commercial potential
  • Lead the analysis and due-diligence of partnering, acquisition and licensing opportunities from origination to definitive agreement and closing
  • Contribute to new product and commercial planning, including development of Target Product Profiles for new products, global market assessments and commercialization strategies assessments for Genocea’s drug candidates
  • Assist in the development of board-level presentations, corporate investor materials, and pitch books
  • Coordinate external valuations of Genocea’s principal areas of business
  • Facilitate and manage key relationships with strategic partners
  • Interact with Investment Banks as required

 

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Advanced scientific degree, MBA or equivalent degree or suitable experience
  • BD experience in a public company in the pharma/biotech or in a related area, with oncology experience a positive
  • Relationship management and/or business development experience involving formation and/or management of strategic partnerships between large and smaller biopharma companies
  • Experience in pharmaceutical business development across deal types: licensing in/out, M&A, spin-offs, marketing & distribution
  • Experience across development stage: pre-clinical, clinical, pre-launch/commercial
  • Demonstrated ability for qualitative and quantitative analyses of market opportunities
  • Demonstrated capability in working in a goal oriented, team-based environment and with biopharma partners
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with functional area leaders
  • Demonstrated skills and flexibility to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be a self-starting independent thinker and problem solver
  • Excellent leadership skills including an enthusiastic, professional, can-do attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills including facility with Microsoft Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint
